2011 RBC Canadian Painting Competition: On Your Marks!
Jon Reed’s Stato di Impotenza earned an honourable mention in the 2010 RBC Canadian Painting Competition
The RBC Canadian Painting Competition is set to announce its 2011 winners September 27 at the Art Gallery of Alberta. No matter who wins, it’s worth taking note of the semifinalists, as past ones read like a who’s who of contemporary painting in Canada, including artists like Brad Phillips, Melanie Authier and Kristine Moran.
One of this year’s nominees is Vancouver-based artist Bitsy Knox. “I try not to think about it very much as I'm pretty busy working on upcoming projects,” she says. “That said, it’s an absolute pleasure to be a part of this and I look forward to meeting the other artists and everyone interested and involved.”
Following the big September announcement, works from each of the semifinalists will be on display at the Art Gallery of Alberta until October 10. From there, the show travels to the Art Gallery of Hamilton and Toronto’s Power Plant.
