Scott McFarland: Sans Souci

From the legendary vistas of Hampstead Heath to the historic village streets of Niagara-on-the-Lake, artist Scott McFarland has brought a distinct, painterly sensitivity to the modern practice of landscape photography. Canadian Art contributing editor Nancy Tousley delves further into the digital and compositional complexities of McFarland’s work in her fall issue article “Beyond Photography.” That perspective is complemented here by a suite of images, including new large-scale panoramic and pinhole photos taken on Georgian Bay’s Sans Souci Island—a landmark refuge since its discovery by Samuel de Champlain in the early 17th century—from McFarland’s latest exhibition on view September 22 to November 7 at Clark & Faria in Toronto.
