Iris Häussler's Projects: Elusive Illusions
In 2006, German-born, Toronto-based artist Iris Häussler pulled the wool over the eyes of many in the local art community and otherwise with her flawlessly immersive installation The Legacy of Joseph Wagenbach. Part performance theatre, part conceptual-art deception, the work cemented Häussler as an artist to watch. Earlier this year, she followed up with Honest Threads, a community-based project housed in Toronto’s landmark Honest Ed’s discount store. Critic Gillian MacKay catches up with Häussler and the mysterious revelations of her latest art fiction He Named Her Amber, sited in the Art Gallery of Ontario’s Grange, in the winter 2009 feature article “Brilliant Disguise.” A selection of six images gathered here offers a hint at Häussler’s intriguingly elusive practice.
