Sobey Finalists 2009: Luanne Martineau
Luanne Martineau’s savvy sculptures are known for their ability to balance and distill an incredible mix of hard-nosed criticism and soft-textured craft. Applying fiber techniques to investigate the legacies of modernist painting and masculinist art histories alike, Martineau produces challenging, witty works that provoke both smiles and serious thought. For the 2009 Sobey Art Award, she is representing the region of British Columbia. This 10-image slide portfolio includes views of Martineau’s fiber sculptures, paper-and-thread “drawings” and in-progress studio works.
