The spring issue of Canadian Art hits newsstands and computer screens across the country this week, offering fresh crop of must-read articles.

In our cover story, respected journalist Deborah Campbell reports on Althea Thauberger’s new spin on war artist practices, while a special “written exhibition” feature section has London/Paris curator Vincent Honoré reflecting on studio visits in Toronto. Another highlight is Tate curator Jessica Morgan’s essay on Ian Wallace and his rigorous brand of west-coast modernism. There’s also a strong contribution from artists, with Calgary painter Chris Cran providing a lively profile of iconoclastic colleague John Will, and Toronto artist Josh Thorpe filing an account of his global tour of Dan Graham’s pavilions.

Web extras for this issue offer an exciting set of online opportunities, including:

views of work by this year’s Governor General’s Award winners

looks at the local artists that impressed Vincent Honoré during his Toronto visit

pictures from this year’s Reel Artists Film Festival premieres

more images of Althea Thauberger’s collaborations with women soldiers

a slideshow of works by Calgary-scene mainstay John Will

a selection of images recapping Ian Wallace’s acclaimed career

Digital subscriptions to the magazine are also now available through Zinio.

All are welcome to join Canadian Art in celebrating the new issue with a free spring launch on Wednesday, March 17, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at Birch Libralato in Toronto (129 Tecumseth St).
