On Newsstands Now: Canadian Art’s 25th Anniversary Issue

Canadian Art’s silver anniversary issue hits newsstands across the nation this week, with a wider-format redesign strongly presenting the art, people, places and ideas that define Canada’s visual arts.

New sections include “Newsfront,” a coast-to-coast roundup of must-know developments in the cultural realm, and “Agenda,” where a quarterly summary of top exhibitions is joined by first-person commentary from artists, curators and gallery directors.

Interestingly, for this 25th anniversary issue, the feature section of Canadian Art doesn’t dwell on glories past; rather, it looks forward to the promise of the future. “Ten Artists to Watch” offers in-depth essays, interviews and profiles on top names in the next generation in Canadian art-making: Adad Hannah, Kelly Richardson, Corin Sworn, Gareth Moore, Emily Vey Duke and Cooper Battersby, Valérie Blass, Jennifer Marman and Daniel Borins and Jed Lind.

Exclusive online supplements to this iconic edition of the magazine include:

• slide portfolios for each of our “Ten Artists to Watch”

surveys of works from each of the five finalists of this year’s Sobey Art Award

• web-accessible versions of our profiles for Adad Hannah, Kelly Richardson and Corin Sworn

• soon-to-come daily updates during the week of the Canadian Art Gallery Hop, which will celebrate the magazine’s 25th birthday with free gallery tours, talks, panels and an all-welcome issue launch

With a great redesign, frequent online updates and terrific anniversary events on offer this fall, Canadian Art is set to spend the next 25 years and beyond keeping art lovers up to date on the best in our national and international art scene.
