Heather Nicol: Lessons on Art School (Dismissed)
More than 50 artists who teach will take over the abandoned Shaw Street School in Toronto for "Art School (Dismissed)" in Toronto this weekend.
It’s a big weekend in Toronto for artists who teach: they are at the centre of a three-day extravaganza called "Art School (Dismissed)" organized by independent curator Heather Nicol in a large, empty public school a stone’s throw north of the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art. In it, artists such as Nina Levitt, Gordon Hicks, Monica Tap and Lyla Rye are joined by more than 50 other artists and performers. In this 10-minute audio interview with Canadian Art editor Richard Rhodes, Nicol explains what prompted the show and draws attention to some of the performances that will take place during the event.
