Toronto Now: The Photographer
For the Toronto Now photo feature in Canadian Art’s winter 2007 issue, the list of potential photographers came to a long list of one: George Whiteside. The award-winning fashion and editorial photographer has been part of the Toronto art scene since the 1970s. His experience and knowledge of the scene was invaluable in setting a genial, professional tone for the eleven different shoots scheduled last September and October. Whether climbing a ladder, setting a light baffle, composing large group shots or perched with his digital Hasselblad under an umbrella on a rainy fall evening with quickly disappearing light, George had it all under control.
In addition to his final photos that you can see here, we present behind-the-scenes images taken by Art Director Barbara Solowan of George and his assistant, Anthea Baxter-Page, at work.
