Vancouver City Council has unanimously approved an expansion and move plan for the Vancouver Art Gallery.
Currently, the gallery is located at 750 Hornby Street; is hopes to double its exhibition space by creating new facility at 688 Cambie Street, currently a parking lot.
The approval was gained last night, and remains conditional on the gallery fundraising the majority of its necessary budget in the next two years.
“We are elated by today’s vote and thank the mayor and city council for this tremendous show of support,” Kathleen Bartels said in an emailed statement. “This is a great day for Vancouver and the province, and we’re looking forward to working together to make the vision of a new gallery a reality.”
