There’s just one month left to apply for the RBC Canadian Painting Competition, one of the nation’s largest and most prestigious art awards. The competition’s 2012 winner will receive a purchase prize of $25,000 and its two honourable mentions will each receive $15,000.
Submissions for this year’s competition will be accepted online at rbc.com/paintingcompetition until 5 p.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday, May 9.
The 15 semifinalists will be announced June 29, while the winners will be awarded November 29 at the Power Plant in Toronto.
Established in 1999, the RBC Canadian Painting Competition, with the support of the Canadian Art Foundation, is a tribute to Canada’s artistic talent. The goal of the competition is to support Canadian visual artists in their early careers by providing them a forum to display their artistic talent to the country and hopefully open doors to future opportunity.
With semifinalists selected from regions across the country, the artists’ entries represent a significant contribution to Canada’s cultural vibrancy. The competition also encourages and nurtures creative potential and facilitates the entry of professional artists into the visual arts community.
