Canadian Art Writing Prize Winners Announced!

We are delighted to announce that Vancouver’s Sara Mameni has won the Canadian Art Writing Prize for 2009. The two runners-up are Alissa Firth-Eagland and Kate Steinmann, both also from Vancouver. The Canadian Art Writing Prize is a national competition designed to encourage new writers on contemporary art. The winners were selected from over 50 submissions and judged by a panel of Richard Rhodes, editor of Canadian Art; Ray Cronin, director of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia; and Nancy Tousley, art critic at the Calgary Herald.
Vancouver’s Sara Mameni has been Education Coordinator at the Vancouver Art Gallery since 2008 and will begin doctoral research in contemporary art at the University of California at San Diego in September 2009. Runner-up Alissa Firth-Eagland is Director/Curator of Media Arts at Western Front. Runner-up Kate Steinmann is a doctoral candidate in art history at the University of British Columbia and is an associate editor at Yishu.
