Films on internationally renowned artists premiere at Reel Artists Film Festival
The fifth annual Canadian Art REEL ARTISTS FILM FESTIVAL, held in Toronto from February 21–24, 2008, features twelve films by some of the world’s leading art filmmakers.
Highlights of the festival include the world premieres of Jeff Wall: Retrospective (2007) by Michael Blackwood and Takashi Murakami (2008) by Marina Zenovich. The festival hosts the Canadian premieres of Robert Wilson: Video Portraits (2007) by Marina Zenovich and Anish Kapoor (2007) by John Wyver. Opening the festival on Thursday, February 21, is Black White + Gray: A Portrait of Sam Wagstaff and Robert Mapplethorpe (2007) by James Crump.
Other highlights include a special screening of Citizen Lambert: Joan of Architecture (2006), by Teri Wehn-Damisch, on Sunday, February 24. This film will be introduced by Marianne McKenna, Partner, KPMB Architects. A conversation with Phyllis Lambert and Globe and Mail architecture critic Lisa Rochon will follow the screening.
The festival launches on Thursday, February 21, 2008, with an opening night screening and celebration at the ROM and Jamie Kennedy at the Gardiner. The Toronto premiere of Black White + Gray: A Portrait of Sam Wagstaff and Robert Mapplethorpe will screen at 6:30 pm sharp at the Signy & Cléophée Eaton Theatre, Royal Ontario Museum, 100 Queen’s Park, followed at 8:30 pm by a celebration with delicious food from Jamie Kennedy at the Gardiner, 111 Queen’s Park.
All other screenings take place at the Al Green Theatre, Miles Nadal JCC, 750 Spadina Avenue (at Bloor Street), Toronto. General admission tickets are $9 in advance; festival passes are $50 in advance. Rush tickets, if available, are $10 ($5 for students/seniors with valid ID) fifteen minutes prior to each screening.
