Tate Modern
London, England
Jessica Morgan discussed Tate Modern’s Unilever Series of artist commissions. The gallery’s Turbine Hall has hosted a succession of outstanding and memorable projects by leading international artists, including Louise Bourgeois, Juan Muñoz, Anish Kapoor, Olafur Eliasson, Bruce Nauman and Rachel Whiteread. In 2006, Morgan curated Carsten Höller’s extraordinary Test Site, an ambitious slide work that infiltrated all of the museum’s levels, from the fifth floor to the Turbine Hall’s bridge.
Jessica Morgan is a curator and writer based in London, England, where she is currently Curator of Contemporary Art at Tate Modern. She has organized group exhibitions such as “Common Wealth” (2003) and “Time Zones” as well as a retrospective of the late, acclaimed German artist Martin Kippenberger (2006). In addition, she recently curated Carster Höller’s Test Site commission for Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall, and is developing the first UK retrospective of the work of John Baldessari. Morgan has published and lectured extensively on contemporary art. Her writing has appeared in numerous exhibition and museum catalogues as well as in art journals such as Parkett, Artforum, Art Review, Grand Street and The Art Newspaper.
The lecture was presented in partnership with the Art Gallery of Ontario.
