Set in the vibrant community of Dawson City, the Yukon School of Visual Arts (SOVA) invites adventure-seeking individuals to take part in its innovative Foundation Year Program. Fully accredited through Yukon College, graduates from SOVA earn transferable credit towards a BFA degree at Canada’s top art schools including the Alberta College of Art and Design, Emily Carr University of Art and Design, NSCAD University, OCAD University and other partnering institutions.

One of Canada’s premier colleges for foundation studies in the visual arts, SOVA is a joint venture between the Dawson City Arts Society, Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in First Nation and Yukon College. SOVA offers students a progressive, holistic and integrated first-year art school curriculum supported by renowned faculty, an international visiting artist program, state of the art equipment and facilities, custom designed studio spaces, low tuition fees and small class sizes. Sova's Foundation Year program provides students with the opportunity to gain new skills and knowledge through an intensive period of examination, exploration and experimentation in both traditional and contemporary visual art practices and mediums.

Located in a newly renovated historic building, the SOVA Foundation Year program provides students access to top of the line studio equipment, new media technologies, and world-class instruction. Students are assigned individual studio spaces within an open studio environment; an iBook laptop computer and digital still camera, and have access to all SOVA facilities and equipment. Foundation Year students are also provided numerous opportunities throughout the program to exhibit their work in the SOVA Art Gallery and multimedia presentation space as well as designated exhibition areas throughout the facility.
