    ADMISSION + PORTFOLIO REQUIREMENTS

    ACAD has been the home of some of the most exciting voices in contemporary art and design in Canada for the past 85 years. With a comprehensive curriculum filled with a range of programs sure to inspire, challenge and stimulate emerging artists and designers, ACAD is the leading choice for students who go on to work in a spectrum of creative industries – doing what they love while building impressive careers that impact the world of art and design.



    Top Steps to Apply to ACAD

    The decision to pursue a post-secondary education is a big one. We’ve simplified the process down to five easy steps that will bring you from your decision to apply through to submitting your portfolio. So get ready and follow the next five steps to get you closer to your art and design future.



    1. Review the Dates + Deadlines

    ACAD admits students in Fall (September) and Winter (January). Click Here to review Fall Admissions Deadlines on our official site.

    2. Find Out Your Applicant Type + the Requirements

    All applicants apply to First Year Studies unless you have completed one year of a studio-based fine art/design program at the post-secondary level.

    Only applicants who have completed an equivalent first year program will be considered for admission at the second year level, and only students who have completed studies equivalent to ACAD’s second year will be considered for admission to third year.

    3. Complete the Application Form + Pay Application Fee

    Now that you know your applicant category you are ready to fill out your online application form at www.acad.ca and pay the $85 application fee.

    This must be done by the deadline appropriate to your applicant category or your application will not be processed. You will be asked to submit a $85 fee online once you have completed the application form.

    4.Organize + Submit Your Supporting Documents

    In order to determine eligibility for admission you must submit in-progress transcripts from each high school and post-secondary institution attended, or are currently attending, at the time of application.

    Official transcripts must be forwarded to the ACAD Admissions Office on or before the appropriate application deadline. Official transcripts in a sealed envelope may be dropped off by hand or forwarded by mail before the application deadline.

    5. Submit Your Personal Statement + Portfolio

    Your personal statement and portfolio are your ambassadors to ACAD. Please be aware that there is no exact formula or template for an acceptable portfolio, and that it can take on a variety of forms.

    William Kurelek: The Messenger
    The time has come to revisit the work of one of the most recognized Canadian painters of the twentieth century. With loans from institutions and individuals across Canada, as well as the US and Great Britain, and comprising over 80 important paintings, this is the largest exhibition of the artist's work ever to be mounted.

    Kristen Bjornerud: Safe Harbour
    Kristen Bjornerud's lyrical watercolours convey myths and legends, dreams and superstitions. This exhibition features recent works, including several made during a 2010 residency on the Swedish island of Gotland as winner of the Brucebo Fine Art Foundation scholarship (juried in part by the AGH).

    Haute Culture: General Idea
    Haute Culture features a selection of 300 works produced by the Toronto-based trio of Jorge Zontal (1944-1994), Felix Partz (1945-1994) and AA Bronson (born 1946). Twenty four years of General Idea’s achievements will be presented in five themes, featuring rarely seen large-scale installations as well as paintings, sculpture, videos and magazines, inviting visitors to explore the Canadian artist collective’s legacy – a legacy that continues to inspire many contemporary artists working today.
