Partners, Friends, Travellers
The Toronto Friends of the Visual Arts, which marks its 10th anniversary this year, revitalized arts patronage in the city when it formed to provide independent education and prize programs that bring annual recognition to local artists and scene-makers. Partners in Art, another savvy patron group, has also made its name as a major player by providing key support for art initiatives in the city. Variant Path has developed state-of-the-art educational tours involving visits to the studios of emerging and established artists as well as other art venues in and outside Toronto. These groups reflect a shift away from conventional volunteerism and toward a new model of patron engagement based on proactive involvement.
