Barnett Newman
Newmans first retrospective since his death in 1970 travels to the Tate Modern this fall after its run at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, where Temkin is curator of modern and contemporary art. In pulling together this richly illustrated book, she has done a remarkable job in reminding us of Newmans vast influence, not only on the New York School that he helped found in the 1940s, but on Minimalism and contemporary paintings abiding conceptual underpinnings.
